A sensible asmnssseet. It would be nice to win there, but we can't win without the Iraqis and they seem to be a singularly inept people. That's because they aren't one people but three (or possibly more).Here's how a conservative can rationalize the next move: We freed the Iraqis and gave them a chance to get their act together but they botched that chance. At some point we must end the paternalism and force them to sink or swim. "A republic if you can keep it."
